Following the way of Budo

The behaviour of the Karate-Ka (Practitioner) in the Dojo (Training Hall) follows deep respect for the place, the people training there and of the teachers.

All students follow specific rules of conduct both inside and outside of the Dojo, the first of these rule is the Ritsurei (Standing Bow) This should be performed upon entering and leaving the Dojo as well as when being addressed or addressing others inside the Dojo.

The Bow upon entering shows deep respect for the knowledge that is obtained there and the efforts of everyone practicing there, when bowing to the teacher the bow shows deep appreciation for the teachers efforts in passing on his knowledge.

It is considered impolite to bend the head so low that the teacher can see the nape of one's neck,

however it is also considered impolite to not bow deep enough or to rush the bow.

In Traditional Japanese Budo Dojos such as ours all practitioners are expected to follow 7 codes of conduct, adherence to theses principles has been followed since the time of the Samurai.

1. Righteousness (義 gi). One's actions should always fall within the quality of being morally right or justifiable in one's actions.

2. Loyalty (忠義 chūgi). Behave with a strong feeling of support or allegiance for your fellow Practitioners.

3. Honor (名誉 meiyo). Embrace the quality of knowing and doing what is morally right.

4. Respect (礼 rei). Have due regard for the feelings, wishes or rights of others.

5. Honesty ( 誠 sei). Be true to yourself.

6. Courage (勇 yū). Have the courage of one's convictions and own one's mistakes.

7. Consistency (誠 makoto ). This is the key to unlock all of your abilities, to fail at this is to have not understood any of the previous principles.
